What is ShopSense?

ShopSense is a free service operated by ShopStyle that allows participants to earn money by featuring links from ShopStyle's retail partners in their blogs, websites, and other applications. All product links are "ShopSense-enabled." ShopSense keeps track of the clicks that go to retailers and calculates a revenue share based on the volume and quality of the traffic.

Participation in ShopSense is absolutely free. Eligible participants must sign up for a ShopSense account to qualify for payment. Please read the ShopSense terms of service for more information.

How does ShopSense work?

ShopSense partners earn revenue when visitors click from ShopSense-enabled ads, widgets, layouts, images, captions, or links from their site or application.

ShopSense pays partners on a per-click basis. You earn a set amount for every valid click that goes from your site or application to a retailer site or to a retailer site via ShopStyle. The rate you are paid per click depends on a number of factors, including how often clicks result in sales for the retailer, the amount of each sale, and whether those products are returned for a refund. As a result, the rate you are paid can vary over time. You can easily track your revenue by day, week, or month from the My Account page.

IMPORTANT: ShopSense is tied to your POPSUGAR (ShopStyle/OnSugar) account. When you generate ads, widgets, layouts, images, captions, or links, they are appended with your unique Partner ID. If you use them generated by another partner, those clicks will not be credited to your ShopSense account, even if those widgets appear on your site or application. The same applies if you use the ShopSense API; you must append your links with your API key in order for your clicks to be credited to your account.

What brands and stores do you carry?

ShopStyle carries thousands of brands from hundreds of leading fashion, beauty, home, and kids retailers. You can see the full list of stores here or simply search for your favorite brands on ShopStyle to see what's available. ShopSense is also available for our ShopStyle UK site.

How frequently are products updated?

The products on ShopStyle are typically updated every 24 hours based on what is currently available on each retailer's own website. Items are automatically removed from ShopStyle once they go out of stock. Occasionally you may see discrepancies between the price and availability on ShopStyle and the retailer's site. These are rare and are usually due to timing differences.

Does it work with all blogging platforms?

We’ve tested our ads, widgets, and layouts on all major blogging platforms. At this time, WordPress-hosted sites only support individual product widgets as they do not allow scripts or iframes.

How will I receive payments?

ShopSense payments are sent to you via PayPal. Once your balance is above $100, we will ask for the email you use to login to your PayPal account and all payments will then be sent to this address. You can then withdraw the money from your PayPal account to your bank account. For more information on how to withdraw funds from your PayPal account see PayPal's help center.

When will I be paid?

When your balance reaches $100, you will be paid on the 20th of the following month. For example, if your balance reaches $100 in January, you will receive your payment on February 20.

What if I don't have a PayPal account?

You can wait until your balance reaches $100 but you will need to open a PayPal account in order to receive your payment. Opening a PayPal account is free and quite simple. For more information, see PayPal's help center.

Will I have to pay some fees to use a PayPal account?

No. Receiving a payment from ShopSense to your Paypal account is free. Also, PayPal doesn't charge you when you withdraw money from your PayPal account to your bank account. For more details about the fees associated with PayPal services, see PayPal's help center.

How do you deal with click fraud?

ShopSense reserves the right to monitor the clicks you generate and determine whether clicks qualify for revenue share. We proactively monitor for fraudulent clicks that do not appear to be coming from the people who are reading your site or using your application. That includes ShopSense participants clicking on their own links and automated programs or robots generating false clicks.

Why do I need to complete a tax form to get paid?

If you establish an affiliate relationship through ShopSense, we are required by the IRS to report the annual income you receive through the program via a 1099 form. Therefore, we must first collect your tax information via a W9 form before making the first payment. This is similar to other affiliate programs.
